VMware vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) – How to Configure NTP

vmware

I’ve been working with VMware vSphere 6.5 recently on a few projects and had to make some minor tweaks to the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) to configure NTP and time synchronization. Here is a quick guide on how to change the NTP settings.

The change can’t be made from logging into the normal vCenter Server Appliance web client you would use for managing the cluster, you have to log directly into the vCenter appliance.

  1. Login to the VCSA appliance using https://appliance_IP:5480.

Login to vcsa vcenter server virtual appliance

2. In the Navigator on the left hand side, select Time.

3.  If you need to change the time zone too you can here. Click Edit next to Time zone.

VCSA vcenter server appliance - Navigator - Time - Timezone - edit

4. Click Edit in the Time Synchronization section, select the Mode, either disabled, host or NTP, select NTP and enter the relevant NTP servers.

VCSA vcenter server appliance - Navigator - Time - Time Synchronization - edit

We now have the correct time zone and NTP server configuration in place.
