The update includes full support for Windows 10 VMs and support for VMware vSphere v6.0 Update 1. See the Knowledge base article kb2068 for a list of fixes and enhancements.

This is great timing for me as I’ve just deployed a Windows 10 VM to our Hyper-V infrastructure and came up against the error message:

“Task failed Error: Wrong IP address The following Msvm_KvpExchangeDataItem.Name keys are deprecated: NetworkAddressIPv4, NetworkAddressIPv6, RDPAddressIPv4, and RDPAddressIPv6. Please configure guest IP addresses using Msvm_GuestNetworkAdapterConfiguration.” Continue reading

How to: Fix Windows 10 upgrade error code 80240020

Windows 10

Having been running the technical previews of Windows 10 for quite a while I wanted to get it on our home laptop as soon as possible, well I finally managed to find some time last week to try the in place upgrade, and it didn’t quite to plan!

I completely patched our Windows 8.1 laptop so that it was up to date, all important and optional updates installed. I’d signed up to reserve my copy of Windows 10, and left the laptop on hoping it would download in the background and surprise me, but after a a few hours and no action I thought I’d better investigate. Windows 10 Resources

Windows 10

With Windows 10 being released next week on the 29th July I thought it was about time I put together some resources for the early adopters among you.

I’ve been using Windows 10 for the past few months on my laptop and have found the tech previews to be very reliable, so am excited to see what features make it into the final edition.

Introducing Windows 10 for IT Professionals

First up we have “Introducing Windows 10 for IT Professionals” (ISBN 9780735696969) by Ed Bott. It’s base on the Tech preview as of April 2015 and will be updated once the final version has been released.

Free ebooks: Microsoft Azure Essentials series: Fundamentals of Azure and Azure Automation

Microsoft Azure Essentials - Fundamentals of Azure

I’m playing catch with a few blog posts as the blog has taken a back seat recently while I have been working on a large project, so you may already know about these!

Microsoft Press have released a couple of new ebooks about Microsoft Azure, in a series entitled Microsoft Azure Essentials.

The first is Microsoft Azure Essentials: Fundamentals of Azure by Michael Collier and Robin Shahan.

From the Introduction:

“This ebook covers the fundamentals of Azure you need to start developing solutions right away. It concentrates on the features of the Azure platform that you are most likely to need to know rather than on every feature and service available on the platform. This ebook also provides several walkthroughs you can follow to learn how to create VMs and virtual networks, websites and storage accounts, and so on. In many cases, real-world tips are included to help you get the most out of your Azure experience.”

See the MS Press blog post here, and download the ebook from the MVA here.

Microsoft Azure Essentials- Azure Automation

The second ebook is Microsoft Azure Essentials: Azure Automation by Michael McKeown.

From the Introduction:

“This ebook introduces a fairly new feature of Microsoft Azure called Azure Automation. Using a highly scalable workflow execution environment, Azure Automation allows you to orchestrate frequent deployment and life cycle management tasks using runbooks based on Windows PowerShell Workflow functionality. These runbooks are stored in and backed up by Azure. By automating runbooks, you can greatly minimize the occurrence of errors when carrying out repeated tasks and process automation.”

See the MS Press blog post here, and download the ebook from the MVA here.

Don’t forget all Microsoft ebooks can be found on the Microsoft Virtual Academy (MVA).
